Demo Day Details
The timing on the Demo Day (27.04.2006) will be very critical, especially for the group driving on the training area. Consequently, the schedule (see below) is designed around this element. Please note that the assignment to the groups and buses is done during the conference, mainly at the Demo Day briefing (26.04.2006, 17:00).
Weather / Clothing
The weather in April may be somewhat instable (see table below). Although we tried to order good weather, we cannot guarantee sunshine. We advise casual clothing as most of the participants will enter and exit cars quite frequently.

Transfer
The bus transfer in the morning will start from the Hotel Steigenberger
at 8:30 sharp (Bus 1+2)! These buses will preferably transport group
A participants who need to be in Linthe at 9:45. You must not miss this bus
when you are assigned to group 1!
- The second transfer also starts from the Steigenberger at 9:30 (bus 3+4) and can transport only participants viewing the prototype cars first.
- Return transfer is always via Tegel airport to the
Steigenberger.
- The first opportunity will be on 15:30 from Linthe (Bus 1+2), arriving 16:45 at Tegel airport and 17:30 at the Steigenberger.
- The last transfer will start on 17:15 from Linthe (Bus 1+2), arriving 18:30 at Tegel airport and 19:15 at the Steigenberger.
Please note that due to the relatively remote location it may not be easy to find a taxi! Unfortunately, we cannot organize individual transfers to or from Linthe!
Driving on the training area
After a short break, group A will be brought in batches to their starting "modules" on the training area (see module overview, module 2, module 3, module 4, module 5, module 7). Each batch of max. 15 participants will have approx. 30 minutes on one module for driving the standards cars (2-5 depending on the actual module) and experience the difference between Micro system assisted driving and with switched-off systems.
At every module an English speaking instructor will give a short description what can be experienced on the specific module as well as instructions what to do (speed, breaking, etc.). The instructor is connected to all cars on the module by a one way radio communication. All drivers are obliged to adhere to the instructions given to them at every time! During the driving, any car will normally be occupied by up to 3 participants. They are free to change to the driver seat as they like. The changing between cars is also encouraged as we try to have a variety of different cars on each module. The changing will be observed by the instructor.
All modules are near each other so that after finishing the exercise on one module, the batch of participants will walk to the next module.
Driving prototypes
All prototypes are displayed near the main building (see module overview) and identified with an exhibit number. The participant can walk around the area and visit any car at any time. Depending on the functions displayed at the car, the car may be taken to rural road, the Autobahn or to a special test area and demonstrated there. In most cases the participants will have the opportunity to drive the prototype and experience the functionality under normal driving conditions.
As the length of the test drive can vary from prototype to prototype, the schedule cannot be fixed. Please go to the location of the car (identified clearly by markers) and ask the staff about the next opportunity for driving.
A description of the current state of the prototypes can be found on the web.
Note: In order to drive the cars (regular or prototype) a valid
driver's licence class 3 (in Germany) is needed!
Lunch
Lunch will be served between 13:00 and 14:00 in the main building. During this period no driving neither on the modules nor with the prototypes will be possible. Refreshments are available during the whole day.
